  • 3/4 lb black-eyed peas or navy beans
  • 2- 14 1/2 oz cans chicken broth (2 cups)
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup ham, chopped
  • 4 carrots, sliced
  • 1 cup celery, sliced
  • 1/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp ground thyme
  • 1/4 tsp ground red pepper
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
