  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Step 1

Combine the dry ingredients together in a bowl. Mix in the shortening until the mixture is crumbly. Add the buttermilk and mix just until combined. The dough will be sticky. Turn out the dough on a floured surface. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Use a biscuit cutter to cut about 10 biscuits, rerolling the dough as needed. Place biscuit on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes

If you're in a hurry, drop these by rounded tablespoons into a greased pan. They won't be a perfect biscuit shape, but they cook up just as nicely and tastes just as good!
