Ingredients

  • Icing:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup colored sugar for decoration
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • dash salt

Preparation

Step 1

In a medium bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Stir in the eggs and vanilla. Sift together the flour and baking powder and stir into the creamed mixture alternately with the heavy cream. Cover dough and chill for 2-3 hours, til firm. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease cookie sheets. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 inch apart on prepared cookie sheets. Sprinkle with colored sugar if desired. Bake 12-14 minutes until bottoms and edges are light brown. Remove from baking sheet and cool on wire racks. Mix icing ingredients together and ice once cool. Makes about 28 round cookies.

*1 cup heavy cream substitute: 3/4 cup milk and 1/3 cup butter. Melt butter and put into milk and let sit for a few minutes.
