Chocolate Angel Food Cake (Terry Suhre)
- 12 egg whites
- 1 1/4 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 3/4 cups white sugar
- 1/2 tsp sat
- 1 cups cake flour
- 3 Tab unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoons vanilla extract
Beategg whites until foamy, add cream of tarterand salt. Beat until soft peaks. Fold in sugar, flour, cocoa and vanilla. (Sift flour, sugar, and cocoa about 6 or 8 times. Bake at 300 for 1 hour.
1/3 cup shortening
3 cups powdered sugar
2 tsp cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
add milk for spreading consistency
Beat with mixer for 5 minutes.
This recipe won 1st place at Illinois State Fair.
