  • Glaze:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • Pinch of cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1 to 1-1/4 cups buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • Milk

Step 1

Preheat oven to 450°F.

In a medium-size mixing bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, sugar, cinnamon and salt. Cut in the shortening. Add vanilla to buttermilk. Stir in enough buttermilk to make a soft dough. Stir in raisins with a stroke or two after adding the milk.

Quickly turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently until dough comes together.

Drop the dough by tablespoons onto a baking sheet.
Bake until golden, 10-15 minutes.

Spoon powdered sugar mixed with enough milk to make a thin icing over the scones when they come out of the oven.
