Basic Italian Cookie Dough

Given to me by my cousin, Luisa's Bruno, this basic cookie dough can filled with an assortment of fillings and can be especially used to make the famous Sicilian fig-filled cookie, cuccidadda.

Ingredients
- Dough
- 5-1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 2 sticks melted unsalted butter
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 2 eggs
- Frosting
- 1-1/2 cups confectioners sugar
- 1 tsp sour cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- Water if needed to make a thin, spreadable frosting.

Preparation
Step 1
Sift flour and combine with the remaining dry ingredients and set aside.
Cream butter and sugar and add sour cream and lemon juice and mix until light and fluffy.
Add the eggs and beat until combined.
Gently add the dry ingredients.
Using a food scale, create 5 even dough balls and refrigerate for 1 hour.
After filling, bake at 400 degrees until lightly golden around the edges.
