Family Favorite "Sourdough" Bread
By Addie
"This bread has a wonderful sourdough taste, but you don't need to bother with a starter," relates Dawn Glynn of Twin Bridges, Montana. "I received the recipe from a friend and now make it more than any other loaf in my bread machine." (Quick Cooking)

I really like this bread! Now, you can take that statement with a grain of salt since I'm a bread lover anyway, but it's nice with a slight sour doughy flavor (no, it's not true sourdough bread, so calm down if you were going to have a fit about it--that's not what I'm saying) and it's very chewy. I used the dough cycle on my bread machine then turned it out into a bread pan to rise. I baked it at 375 for about 50 minutes and it is wonderful. It's great with a bit of margarine or butter (whatever floats your boat) and I think will be good for sandwiches too. Unlike one of the other reviewers, I had no need to add any more flour, and it's raining here, which can often affect bread making. The dough consistency was perfect. Just remember that humidity or lack thereof can make dough need more or less flour and be willing to work with it. Thank you for the recipe!
This recipe does have a sourdough like taste, but of course, it's not as good as the real thing. It didn't rise as much as I expected, and I thought it was a flop when I first looked at it. However, it ended up being a dense, tasty bread. Easy to slice up for sandwiches. Great way to use leftover sour cream!
This is a great recipe! It has a wonderful sourdough flavor, and I love that it is made in the bread machine. Word of warning, this recipe does not work if you have a fast-baking cycle. My machine will make a loaf in 58 minutes, so I tried it with these ingredients and it did not work. I tried the recipe again with the standard 3 hour cycle, and the results were fantastic! Thank you!
I have made this many times. Soooo good!!!! I love it toasted in the morning. Try adding some spices like basil, thyme oregano and garlic for a lovely herb bread! Great with pasta. Mmmmm!!!!
Excellent. A bit of tang. Great with dinner or with butter and honey later on!
My family has a new favorite. This is a easy recipe to use and tastes great!
I made this bread today and it's wonderful! It is hands down the best bread I've made in my bread machine. I followed the recipe to the letter and it came out perfect. My two little granddaughters absolutely loved it. Not much left, we ate almost the whole loaf. Thanks for sharing this recipe.
This is a good recipe and the bread is very tasty. It didn't rise as much as I would have liked, but it didn't take away from the final result. The recipe also reminded me that I used to put vinegar in my favorite bun dough recipe...i will start making them again. I will make this recipe again but maybe bake it in the oven and add some vital wheat gluten.
