This delectable combination of spicy Portuguese sausage and potatoes can be served as a main course as well as a side dish. To complete the meal, serve a green vegetable and papo-secos or cornbread. Adjust the seasonings to suit your taste.

- 2 pounds small new potatoes(about 12), peeled
- 1 pound chourico, cut in 1/2-inch slices
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Spanish paprika
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- pinch ground cinnamon
- pinch ground allspice
- pinch ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 cup dry white wine or beer

Step 1
In saucepan, cover potatoes with water. Bring to boil and boil for 5 minutes. Drain. Line bottom of 11 x 7-inch baking dish with single layer of potatoes and chourico slices.
With mortar and pestle or in small bowl using back of spoon, combine garlic, paprika, tomato paste, cinnamon, allspice, cumin and salt until pastelike. Brush paste evenly over chourico and potatoes. Sprinkle with onion. Dot with butter and pour wine over top.
Cover and bake in 400 F oven for 40 minutes, turning potatoes and chourico and basting twice. Uncover and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until potatoes are tender when pierced with fork. Taste and add salt if necessary.
