French Onion Bagael Burgers
By dette
For a change, I like to use high-fiber, low-fat bagels for burgers=they're a great healthy alternative to hamburger buns. Weight Watchers and Western Bagel make a number of high-fiber varieties (I love the onion ones!). However, if they're too pricey or you can't find them, you can use whole wheat or whole grain hambuger buns...just need in mind that you'll be cutting out aobut 6 grams of fiber per burger.

Preparation
Step 1
Preheat a grill to high heat.
Divide the beef into 4 equal protions and shape into balls, packing them tightly as you do. Press each into a patty that is about 1/2" larger in diameter than the bagels. Season with salt and pepepr.
Grill the burgers for 1-2 mintues per side for medium rare, or until desired doneness (do not smash the burgers with a spatula). If desired, place the bagel halves, cut sides down, on the upper grill rack or away from direct flame or about 20 seconds, until just toasted.
Place each bagel bottom on a plate. Top with the lettuce and tomatoes, followed by the patties. Spread the inside of each bagel top evenly with 1 cheese wedge, flip the bagel tops atop the burgers and serve.
