Preparation

Step 1

1st step:
1 cup shortening (I use Crisco)
1 cup boiling water - pour it over shortening, then add
1 cup sugar

2nd:
2 packages dry yeast, dissolve in
1 cup warm water
(Water too warm will kill the yeast - check the date on the yeast)

When 1st mixture gets to lukewarm, add the yeast mixture.

Beat 2 eggs with 1 1/2 teaspoons salt; add to yeast mixture. Then add:
6 cups sifted flour, 2 cups at a time, mixing well.
(I use Gold Medal plain)

Cover and refrigerate overnight or several hours.

When ready to roll out, take 1/2 cup flour and put in a bowl. Take out part of the dough and roll in flour until you can work with it.

Let rise in warm place 2 hours.

Bake at 350 until done.

(Sometimes I make out and freeze on cookie sheet. After frozen, put in freezer bag and use as needed. If frozen, they need 3 hours to rise.)
