Preparation

Step 1

Directions for making the cinnamon rolls:
Dissolve yeast in warm water in large bowl. Stir in milk, sugar, shortening, salt, egg and 2 cups of the flour. Beat until smooth. Mix in enough remaining flour to make dough easy to handle.

Turn dough onto lightly floured surface, knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place in greased bowl; turn greased side up. Cover; let rise in warm place until double, about 1 1/2 hours. (dough is ready if an indentation remains when touched).

Punch down dough; on a lightly floured surface roll dough into rectangle about 9-x18-inches; Once rolled out spread with margarine. Mix sugar and cinnamon together in small dish. Sprinkle over rectangle.(This is optional - If you like raisins or chopped nuts you may sprinkle a 1/2 cup of each) over the sprinkled cinnamon before rolling up. Roll up tightly, beginning at wide(18) side.Seal well by pinching edges of roll together.Stretch roll to make even. Cut roll into 1 to 1 1/2 inch slices. Place a little apart on greased pan or cookie sheet . Cover and let rise until double in bulk, about 35 to 40 minutes.

Heat oven to 375 degrees. Bake until golden brown, 25 to 30 minutes. Spread rolls with Glaze cinnamon rolls while warm. Makes about 18 cinnamon rolls.

Glaze:
Mix powdered sugar, milk and vanilla until glaze is smooth and of desired consistency. Add little more milk if too thick.

REVIEWS:

Instead of putting these on a baking sheet spread apart, I put them all touching right next to each other in a 9x13 glass baking dish and took them out after 18 minutes. They were extra soft and moist! SO GOOD!

In all honesty, I was a little dissapointed in my final product. It was overburnt and did not taste as good as I thought it would be. But with a glass of milk, it is a fairly tasty dessert that can use some improvements.

For only being 15 years old, I love to cook. I cook for my family and friends all the time. Today i made these cinnnamon buns for my little cousins and little sister, I loved them but the glaze wasnt all that great. I added a 1/2 tsp more vanilla and a dash of milk and then it was wonderfull!

These are the BEST cinnamon rolls! I have finally found my favorite cinnamon roll recipe. They're better than Mom's (don't tell!) All ingredients for bread were perfect...I didn't use quite all of the sugar for the cinnamon mixture...20 minutes bake time was just right. Thanks so much for the recipe!

I was pleasently surprised that these were as good as my mother-in-law used to make. I increased the cinnamon mixture to 3 tbs - 2/3 cup - 2-1/2 tsp. respectively. Also I doubled the glaze. I agree with the previous reviewer - 350 degrees - 15 to 20 minutes."

I am not a great cook at all but thought I would give this recipe a go anyway fully expecting to fail. I was very suprised - it was sooo easy to make and the scrolls turned out beautifully!!!!!!! As another reviewer wrote about changing the baking time - I too would follow their advice by only cooking for approx 15 mins."

This is a recipe for success! Quite the contrary of the first review! This is a wonderful recipe for baking cinnamon rolls that are a true crowd pleaser. My family loved these cinnamon rolls so much that I decided to bake them along with my chocolate chip cookies for holiday gift platters. They were a huge success! Everyone loved them. I highly recommend printing this recipe and giving it a go. The time and effort are truly worth the delectable results.
The only variation to this recipe that I found was needed was the bake time. I left my cinnamon rolls in the oven for approxiamately 10 - 20 minutes at 350 degrees for perfect results. Enjoy!"

Excellent recipe for me to take to my job. They love the cinnamon rolls. Thanks again!

Cinnamon hockey pucks maybe? The only thing good about these were their scent! They were extremely time consuming and the end result was very dry and hard. I was quite disappointed after having invested +3 hours of my time making these! I was hoping for a good old fashioned homemade cinnamon roll, warm soft and gooey from he oven I ended up with twirly shaped hockey pucks that stuck to my greased cookie sheet! The glaze was good - basic though and umm spread upon a hopeless pastry.
