  • Glaze:
  • 2 cups plain flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp apple pie spice
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups peeled and sliced apples
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/4 cup milk

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9 x 13 pan with cooking spray. In a medium bowl, combine flour, salt, baking soda and pie spice. Mix well and set aside. In a large bowl, beat sugar, oil, eggs and vanilla for 3 minutes at medium speed. Add flour mixture and stir until dry ingredients are moistened. Fold in apples and walnuts. Pour batter int baking pan and spread evenly. Bake 50 - 55 minutes or into done. Cool cake in pan.

Glaze:
In a small saucepan, bring brown sugar, butter and milk to a boil, stirring until sugar is melted. boil 1 minute. Spoon half of glaze over warm cake. Set remaining aside. Allow cake to stand 5 minutes. Top each serving with remaining glaze and whipped topping if desired.
