Portuguese Bread

A plain, sweet yeast bread with roots in Portugal, this tasty loaf is delicate, delicious, and made easy with the bread machine.

- 1 Cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 1/2 Cup sugar
- 3/4 Teaspoon salt
- 3 Cups bread flour
- 2 1/2 Teaspoons yeast

Step 1
All ingredients should be at room temperature. Make in bread machine on DOUGH cycle. When done, punch down and form into free-form round loaf. Let rise till double, covered, and bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes. (I check bread temperature with my Thermapen to know when it is done.) Watch to make sure that crust does not over-brown.

MY NOTES: Needed to add WAY more flour. It was a puddle in the bread machine. To be closer to Fall River style bread, maybe add one more egg or 2 egg yolks? (in place of some liquid) I made this into a big round like like the photo below. It made pretty slices. This bread freezes well.
