Preparation

Another score for a mom trying to find something her kids will actually eat. If you live in Utah, you’ve probably made these a million times over. If you haven’t heard of these, they are a great fast and easy staple meal that everyone will eat. They are crescent rolls filled with a chicken cream cheese mixture and topped with gravy. My friend Heather gave me this recipe a couple of years ago. She has four boys so I knew I could trust her judgement. Thanks Heather.

When I’m planning my meals for the week, if I notice I have a couple recipes that need cubed or shredded chicken, then at the beginning of the week I cook enough chicken for the week. I usually boil it with some large chunks of onion and salt and pepper. Then you can just shred or dice it, and throw it in the fridge or freezer as needed. It makes those crazy nights a little easier.

1 (0.87) package chicken gravy mix

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Using a hand mixer or by hand, beat cream cheese and sour cream until well combined. You can do this by hand if your cream cheese is soft enough. Stir in salt, pepper, onion, chives, and diced chicken.

Using Pillsbury crescent rolls, take 2 triangular rolls and push together at perforated seam to make into a square. Make sure you seal the perforations well so your filling doesn’t come out. Put about 3 tablespoons of chicken mixture in the center of each square. Fold the dough corners to the center over the chicken mixture forming a pillow.

Dip each pillow in melted butter on both sides. Roll in bread crumbs on both sides. Shake excess crumbs off. Place chicken pillow on cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

Make gravy by mixing one package of chicken gravy mix, one can of cream of chicken soup and 3/4 can of water in a small pot. Mix together and heat until warm. Serve chicken pillows with gravy poured over top.

I like to make these, but I also throw in some sliced mushrooms and cashews. Soooo yummy!

hey… i know you are talking about serving these for a dinner… think they are too big to pass for finger food at a get together? like as an appetizer? or could i make them smaller? thank you!

I love these! My mom used to make these after Thanksgiving, with the leftover turkey. They sound soooo good right now! I just might have to make a little change to my menu this week

These are delicious!! I used to make them kinda forgot about them! Thanks for the reminder;)

I have never made these before but they sounded so good. So I made them tonight and my entire family loved this recipe! Will definitely make again – might add some mushrooms and jalapenos also.

I’ve been making a variation on these for years! I have never served them with gravy though! It looks delicious!

NEVER heard of these before, but made them last night for dinner (without the breading or gravy) with a side of pasta salad and will be adding them to our recipes….YUUUUUUM!!

I’ve never heard of these, but I think my boyfriend would love them! I think he gets sick of all the pasta dishes I make

i really want to make these tomorrow or friday, so if you get the chance, let me know!

Anyway, I usually just boil some chicken with some chunks of onion and salt and pepper for about 10 minutes or until done. Or you can just throw some in the crockpot for 3-4 hours with some water and chunks of onion. Or grill it or just brown it in a pan on the stove. This recipe is very forgiving so you can’t go wrong. Sorry I didn’t see this sooner!

Pillsbury makes a non perferated cresent roll so you can make your own recipes with it. I found it today and made this for the first time. I am a mother of 4 teenage boys and they loved the chicken pillows!!

Tried these, liked them but the cream cheese was a bit much for me so I made a few changes. The next time I made them I used sliced turkey breast, smoked ham and gouda cheese, to die for. I also added a scant teaspoon of Kraft Cooking Cream on top of the meat before closing the bundle. This is a great base recipe, you can use anything you want for the filling, even make different fillings for each person. Absolutely one of my favorite go to recipes from the first time I tried it.

Never heard of them but had to try them. They turned out pretty tasty Will have to make again. Thanks for sharing.

I made these last night and we all loved them! They are a bit rich on their own but when you add the gravy it is just perfect!

I used the meat from an entire Costco rotisserie chicken and had more than enough for 16 pillows, 4 cans of crescent dough, and I still have some leftover. I used fresh chives (we grow them), some dried parsley flakes, garlic salt, lemon pepper, and a few shakes of Tabasco. I put some leftover on a slice of bread for lunch and it tasted like a chicken salad sandwich! I found it easier to work with the dough while it was very cold, so I put them in the freezer while I mixed up the filling and only took out one can at a time.

My pillows didn’t look as neat or as ‘pillowy’ as yours, but that just means I need to make them again so I can practice

I also froze the pillows before I dipped them in the melted butter so the dough wouldn’t be too sticky. I think they can be frozen after rolling them in breadcrumbs, so it would be great to make a large batch of these when crescent roll dough is on sale (or if they’re at Costco or Sam’s).

For the gravy, I used the large can of cream of chicken soup, it’s around 26 ounces. I filled the can halfway with water, but used only ONE packet of chicken gravy, and it made plenty. I also added a handful of diced small mushrooms and let it simmer until tender.

Made these tonight…delicious !!! I added chopped spinach due to my husband still being quite the 6 yr old when it comes to veggies. I have to hide them inside stuff he normally eats…he thought they were great. Thanks for sharing this, Christy !

Hi Christy, thank you so much for this recipe… These look great!! Do you think these would taste good with shredded gruyere added to the filling?

I hate to say this….and I know I am committing an most heinous cooking crimes….but I am not a fan of cream cheese at all…is there anything else I can use as part of the mixture?

My recipe for this also includes small pieces of celery and slivered almonds. I always make more than we will eat because they are excellent the next day as a cold sandwich.

Well, I ran across this site, seen the chicken pillow recipie, and thought humm I need to give this a shot. I did and let me tell you, I am so impressed . MY WHOLE family absolutely LOVED it. Cudos to you. And thank you for a recipie that will certainly be shared with many friends…..ooh by the way my husband is a Swiss cheese lover so I added some to your gravy and wow what a pop. …thanks again
