Preparation
Step 1
Set aside 2 TBS. butter. In large bowl beat remaining butter on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add brown sugar and baking soda, beating until combined. Beat in eggs and 2 tsp. vanilla til combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in remaining flour and then the oats.
For filling, in medium sauce pan combine the reserved 2 TBS. butter, chocolate chips and can of milk. Cook over low until melted, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. If you like nuts, add the walnuts or pecans and 2 tsp. vanilla..
Press 2/3 (about 3 1/3 cups) of the oats mixture into the bottom of an ungreased 15x10x1 (jelly roll) pan. Spread filling over the crust. Dot remaining oat mixture on the filling. May want to flatten the pieces a little upon putting on the filling.
Bake at 350 for approximately 25 minutes or until top is lightly browned. Chocolate filling will still look moist. Cool on a wire rack and then cut into bars.
