Preparation

Step 1

Combine 3 cups of flour, yeast, sugar, salt and baking soda. Heat the liquids until very warm (120-130 degrees Fahrenheit); Add to the dry mixture and beat well. Stir in enough additional flour to make the batter stiff (approximately 2 cups). Spoon the mixture into two 8 ½” x 4 ½” pans that have been greased and sprinkled with cornmeal. Sprinkle the tops of the bread with cornmeal. Cover and let the loaves rise in a warm place for 45 minutes. Bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes. Remove the loaves from the pans immediately and cool on a wire rack.

**This is wonderful sliced and toasted, tasting just like an English muffin!
