Ingredients

  • 3 pounds round steak
  • 1/4 cup onion...diced small
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 (11 ounce) cans Mandarin oranges....SAVE juice
  • 4 cups celery...sliced
  • 2 (5 ounce) cans water chestnuts...drained and sliced
  • 1 green pepper...cut in strips
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • hot cooked rice

Preparation

Step 1

Brown beef and onion in butter. Add 3 cups beef broth, soy sauce, ginger and juice from oranges. Bring to a boil. Cover and simmer on low heat for 1 1/2 hours or til tender. Add celery, water chestnuts and green pepper. Simmer 7 minutes. Mix cornstarch with 1/2 cup water and add to mixture. Stir til thickened. Let boil while stirring for 5 minutes. Add oranges and serve with rice.
