Ingredients

  • 1 loaf reg. size bread
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 Tablespoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup raisins (OPT)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • SAUCE
  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • 2 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat Oven to 350 degrees
Break the bread into small chunks in a large bowl.
Add the white sugar & melted butter & stir.
Add the eggs one at a time alternately with the milk stirring well so each egg is incorporated before adding the next one, until all the eggs & milk are used.
Stir in the vanilla, cinnamon & raisins.
Pour into a greased 13x9 inch pan.
(sometimes gets overfull, depending on bread.)
sprinkle brown sugar over top of mixture.
Bake for approx. 1 hour.
Let cool 20 to 30 minutes to let get firm.
WHILE BAKING
melt butter in a small saucepan. combine sugar & cornstarch & add to melted butter
Stir in milk & corn syrup. Cook, stirring over medium heat until mixture comes to a full boil. Boil 1 minute then remove from heat. Stir in vanilla.
Serve over cooled, but warm bread pudding.
