Ingredients

  • Crust:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat pastry flour)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • Filling:
  • 4 cups pared, cored, sliced apples (1/8″ thick)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Cinnamon Glaze;
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

For the crust, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Cut in the butter. Mix in the egg yolks (this will be crumbly). Press half of this mixture into the bottom of a greased 9″x13″ pan (can also use a jelly roll pan). Set the remaining topping aside.

Combine all of the filling ingredients together and spoon over the bottom crust. Sprinkle the remaining crust mixture over the filling. Bake at 350 degrees F for 35-40 minutes.

For the Cinnamon Glaze, whisk all of the ingredients together until well blended. Drizzle over the cooled bars.
