- 1 cup green split peas
- 1 cup white barley
- 1 cup red lentils
- 1/4 cup dry onion flakes
- 2 tablespoons dry celery flakes
- 2 tablespoons dry parsley flakes
- 1 tablespoon chicken boullion

Step 1
In a bowl, mix onion flakes, celery flakes, celery flakes, and boullion.
Layer ingredients in a quart jar in this order: spice mix, split peas, barley, and lentils.

Split Pea Soup
Add jar mix to 10 cups of water in a large stock pot. If desired, add chopped ham, ham bone, or two ham hocks. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cover pan; simmer for45-50 minutes (or until peas are tender), stirring occasionally to prevent peas from sticking. Add more water if necessary. Remove bay leaf. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve soup with dollop of sour cream and bacon bits, if desired.
