Preparation
Step 1
Mix together the warm water, yeast, and 1 tsp. sugar and set aside. In another bowl, mix the milk, the remaining 2/3 cup sugar, melted butter, salt, and eggs; stir well. Add the yeast mix to the milk mix. Add ½ the flour, beating until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour so that the dough is slightly stiff but will still be sticky.
Knead the dough 5 – 10 minutes, place in a buttered bowl and cover. Rise until doubled, about 1 – 1 ½ hours. When doubled punch down the dough and rest for 5 minutes; roll into 15 x 20 inch rectangle.
Spread dough with ½ cup melted butter. Mix together 1 ½ cups sugar and the cinnamon. Sprinkle the sugar mix over the buttered dough and then sprinkle with nuts. Roll up the dough and seal. Cut into 12 – 15 slices.
Coat a 13 inch x 9 inch pan and an 8 inch square pan with the remaining ½ cup melted butter and sprinkle with ¼ cup sugar. Place the cinnamon sliced in the pan, close together. Rise 45 minutes until doubled. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 – 30 minutes and cool slightly.
For the glaze: combine the melted butter, sugar, and vanilla. Add 1 tbs. of the hot water at a time, until the mix reaches the desired consistency.
