Ingredients

  • Filling:
  • 8 oz dried figs
  • 4 oz dates, pitted
  • 2 TB slivered or chopped almonds
  • 1 TB maple syrup
  • 2 TB water
  • 1 TB lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • Crust:
  • 1 cup regular or quick oats, ground in blender til fine
  • 1 cup regular oats
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 TB maple syrup
  • 4 oz unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup water

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375.

Place figs, dates and almonds in a food processor and grind to a coarse paste. Add syrup, water, juice and cinnamon; pulse until mixed, then set aside.

Combine dry crust ingredients, and then add the wet. Stir well. Press half the crust mixture into a greased rectangular pan. Cover with fig filling, then smooth the remaining crust mixture on top. Bake for about 30 minutes, and cool completely before cutting into bars.
