Dark Chocolate Pecan Squares

Ingredients
- 1 1/3 cups flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 cup cold shortening
- 3-6 tbs. water
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted
- 2 cups toasted pecans
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 3/4 cup golden corn syrup
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate

Step 1
Blend flour and salt in a medium bowl. Cut in chilled shortening into cubes. Mix the chilled shortening with the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle half the ice water over the flour mixture, add 1 tbs. at a time, until dough is moist enough to hold together.
Flatten dough into 1/2 inch thic round disk. Wrap disk in plastic and chill for 30 minutes and up to 2 days.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Roll the chilled dough and transfer to a 9 x 9 inch baking dish, trim the edges to the height of the baking dish sides. Roll the edge under so that the dough comes 3/4 of the way up the sides.
Spread melted chocolate over teh bottom and chill to set. Cover with pecans.
Whisk together the eggs, brown sugar, and vanilla in a bowl. Whisk in the cornsyrup, and add the chocolate chips. Pour mixture over the pecans and bake in preheated oven about 50 minutes.
