Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup plus 1 teaspoon granulated sugar, divided
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) room temperature butter, cut into 4 even slices
  • 1/3 cup sweetened dried cranberries
  • 1/3 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 1 can (5.33 ounces) evaporated skim milk
  • 1 egg

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400 degree.

In medium-sized bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt; mix well. Cut butter into flour mixture until crumbly, then stir in cranberries and walnuts.

In small bowl, combine milk and egg, whisk to mix. Add egg mixture to flour and stir just until blended.

On floured surface, knead dough 5 to 6 times, then place on ungreased baking sheet and press into circle about 1-inch thick and 8-inches across. Cut into 8 wedges, but do not separate. Sprinkle with remaining 1 teaspoon sugar. Bake on middle oven rack for 18 to 22 minutes, or until golden brown.
