Ingredients
- 1 pound (4 sticks) butter, softened
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup water
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 5 cups all-purpose flour (try adding additional flour--cookies spread and are quite flat)
- 1 1/2 twelve-ounce packages semisweet chocolate chips

Step 1
1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
2. Cream the butter, eggs, molasses, vanilla, and water in a medium-size bowl. Note: It takes at least 5-10 mins for mixture to incorporate and turn fluffy.
3. In a large bowl, sift together the sugars, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and flour.
4. Combine the moist mixture with the dry mixture. Add the chocolate chips.
5. Shape the dough into 1-inch balls, and place them 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Note: Cookies spread. Try making 1/2-inch balls & refrigerate first.
6. Bake for 8 minutes, or until light brown around the edges.
