  • 8 eggs, keep 4 egg whites for the icing

Step 1

Add the eggs to 3-4 cups flour and work well; kneading. Add flour until you get a firm but not too hard dough, let dough rest 5 minutes. Cut dough into smaller balls and put a bit of oil over each ball, let the balls rest another 5 minutes or so. Roll each ball into a long rope and cut into pieces, make a hole in each piece, and cut the outer edge of each circle with a razor blade; let the piece dry. Fry in lard, turning often.

For the icing whip the whites until they peak, then add icing sugar until you get the right consistency; then add 1 tsp . of spirit of anise.
