  • - 1 lb ground sirloin or ground turkey
  • - 1 tsp salt
  • - 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • - 1 T. canola oil
  • - 1 large red onion, diced
  • - 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • - 8 sliced rye bread, toasted

Preparation

Step 1

- Season the meat with the salt and pepper and form into 4 large, thin patties. Heat the oil in a cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and scatter the onion around the burgers. Stir the onion from time to time to keep from burning.

- Cook the burgers for 3 to 4 minutes, then flip and immediately cover each with a slice of Swiss. Continue cooking until the birgers are cooked all the way through, about another 3 mintues. Remove, place on top of the toasted rye, cover with the sauteed onions, and top with another slice of rye.
