Ingredients

  • 1 cup soft shortening (part butter)
  • 1-1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2-3/4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Step 1

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar and eggs thoroughly. l measure flour by dip level pour method or by sifting. Blend all dry ingredients; stir in. Roll into balls the size of small walnuts. Roll in mixture of 2 tbsp. sugar and 2 tsp. cinnamon. Place 2" apart on ungreased baking sheet. Bake 8 to 10 mins. Makes about 5 doz. 2" cookies.

note: add 2 tsp. lemon extract and 2 tsp. lemon peel to make delicious lemon cookies.
