Preparation
Step 1
1) In a large bowl combine 1/2 cups of the flour, yeast, Italian seasoning, and parsley flakes. In a saucepan heat and stir the fat free milk, water, 2 tablespoons butter, sugar, and garlic salt just until warm (120° to 130°) and butter almost melts.
2) Add milk mixture to flour mixture. Add egg. Beat with an electric mixer on low to medium speed for 30 seconds, scraping the side of the bowl constantly. Beat on high speed for 3 minutes. Using a wooden spoon, stir in 1/2 cup of the Parmesan cheese and as much of remaining flour as you can.
3) Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
Knead in enough of the remaining flour to make a
moderately soft dough that is smooth and elastic (3 to 5 minutes total). Shape dough into a ball. Place in a lightly greased bowl, turning once to grease surface of dough. Cover; let rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 45 minutes).
4) Grease baking sheets or a 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Punch dough down. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide dough into 16 portions. Gently shape each portion into a ball. Place balls on prepared baking sheets or in prepared pan.
5) Brush tops with 2 tablespoons melted butter and sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese. Cover and let rise in warm place until nearly doubled (about 15 minutes).
6) Bake in a 375° oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden. Serve warm.
