  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 2 Tbs. light corn syrup
  • 2 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 3 Tbs. butter

Step 1

Combine sugars, milk and corn syrup in a medium-sized saucepan. Chop up the chocolate squares and add to the sugar mixture. Cook slowly, stirring constantly, until mixture boils. Boil slowly, stirring occasionally, to 236° F (or when a small quantity in cold water forms a soft ball). Remove from the heat; add the butter without stirring. Cool to lukewarm (110° F). Add vanilla extract; beat until fairly thick. Turn into a greased 8 x 8 x 2" pan. Cool, cut in squares.

NOTE: Dad never used a pan. He just dumped the fudge on a waxed paper covered cookie sheet.
