Ingredients

  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 3 tsp. double-acting baking powder
  • 1 tsp. dill
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 c. crisco shortening
  • 1/2 c. shredded cheese
  • 3/4 c. milk

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
In a bowl mix flour, baking powder, dill and salt.
With a pastry blender, cut in Crisco until mixture looks like coarse meal.
Stir in shredded cheese. Add milk and stir just enough to hold dough together.
Place on a lightly floured surface and knead lightly; roll 3/4 " thick. Cut with floured biscuit cutter without turning the cutter, and place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until as brown as desired.

Cinnamon Biscuits - follow directions omitting cheese and dill, reduce the milk to 1/2 c. and sprinkle with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Bake for 6 to 9 minutes.
