  • 1 1/2 tsp olive oil
  • 1/2 green pepper finely chopped
  • 1/4 medium yellow onion finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 rib celery finely chopped
  • 1/2 pound lean ground turkey
  • 1 Tbsp red wine vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1/3 c strained tomatoes
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 2 large whole wheat hamburger buns

Step 1

Preheat broiler.
Heat oil and saute over low heat. Add pepper, onion, garlic, and celery. cover and cook, stirring until softened about 7 minutes. Push vegetables to one side of pan and raise to medium heat and add meat until cooked, about 7 minutes. Combine meat and vegetables and add vinegar. Stir in tomato paste and sugar and cook until lightly browned about 4 minutes. Add tomatoes, nutmeg and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer about 3 minutes. Open buns and toast in broiler.
