Preparation
Step 1
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees. Start a large pot of water to boil for the Manicotti shells.
While the water is coming to a boil, melt butter in a large frying pan and add the meat
I usually add a little salt and pepper to the meat as it browns.)
Brown the meat until all the grease is cooked out of it
Don’t forget to add the Manicotti shells to the boiling water!
While all of this is cooking & browning, get a large bowl and grate the bread so it
will be crumbly. Next, grate the cheese on top of the bread crumbs.
Chop up the parsley and add to it or throw the flakes on top of the bread crumbs and cheese.
Drain the shells, rinse them and leave them in the pot so they stay warm.
Pour the meat on top of the cheese and bread crumb mixture.
Add the milk and the egg at this time too. Salt and pepper to taste.
Mix it all up and get ready to stuff the shells.
I like to wear those gyno gloves so my hands don’t get so nasty!
I tried a spoon once and it took too long so I started using my hands. Put a cutting board down
to set the shells on as you stuff them. I don’t usually put them in the baking dish
until I’m through stuffing them so if there is anything left I can
add more to a few of the shells. I stuff them pretty full. I use 2 Pyrex
dishes to make 2 batches since 14 shells is too much for one meal.
We eat the leftovers every time!
Pour some Ragu in the bottom of both Pyrex dishes. Add the shells.
Top the dish that you are going to bake with more sauce so that everything is covered.
Cover this dish with foil and put it in the oven about 30 minutes until it is bubbling.
At this point, uncover it, sprinkle Parmesan cheese and put it back
in the oven 5 minutes. After that, dig in!
