Ingredients
- 1/2 c chopped pecans
- 1/3 c (5 1/3 Tbsp) butter or margarine
- 1 (12 oz) bag (or 2 c) chocolate chips (see note), divided
- 1/2 c minus 1 Tbsp sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 c plus 1 Tbsp flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Note: If you like, substitute other flavored baking chips for the 1 cup of chocolate chips stirred into the batter at the last step.

Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease an 8-inch square pan.
Toast the pecans in a heavy frying pan about 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become fragrant and begin to color. Set aside.
Melt together the butter and 1 cup of the chocolate chips. Beat in the sugar, then the eggs and vanilla. Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt and stir into the batter. Stir in the pecans and remaining cup of baking chips. Bake about 30 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean (try several places as you might hit a chocolate chip).
