Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup shortening (part butter part margarine)
  • 1 1/2 cups Flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup nuts (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 package (6oz.) semi-sweet chocolate pieces

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 375°

Mix shortening, sugars, egg, and vanilla thoroughly. Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting. (For a softer rounder cookie add ¼ cup more flour.) Stir dry ingredients together; blend in. Mix in nuts and chocolate pieces.

Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough about 2” apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 min, or until delicately browned. (Cookies should still be soft.) Cool slightly before removing cookies from baking sheet.

Makes 4 to 5 dozen 2” cookies.
*When tripling the batch just use 1 12 ounce package of chocolate and 1 cup of nuts*
