Ingredients

  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 tbl. olive oil
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 can (10.75 oz.) condensed tomato soup
  • 2 cans (6 oz. each) tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 c. brewed coffee
  • 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 c. wheat germ (optional)
  • 1 can (3 oz.) sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 tsp basil or oregano
  • hot cooked pasta
  • grated fresh Parmesan cheese

Preparation

Step 1

Brown garlic and onion lightly in oil. Add meat and brown, stirring frequently. Stir in soup, tomato paste, coffee, sugar, salt and wheat germ (if used). Mix well and simmer 30 minutes. Add mushrooms and basil and simmer 5 minutes longer.

Serve over pasta and sprinkle with cheese.


The coffee gives this sauce a hearty flavor.
