Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup ground hazelnuts
  • 1/3 cup ground pecans
  • 375 grams packet puff pastry
  • 1 tbs. sugar

Step 1

Combine milk and brown sugar in a pan, cook, stirring until sugar is dissolved and mixture is a light caramel color. Add the nuts, and cool 20 minutes. Divide pastry in half. Roll 1 half on lightly floured surface to 19cm x 30cm rectangle, spread half the caramel mixture over the rectangle.

Fold in the long sides of the rectangle so they meet in the centre, brush edges with water and fold in half lengthways, press lightly. Repeat. Cover and chill rolls for 30 minutes. Sprinkle rolls with sugar. Cut each roll into 1.5 cm slices, place them on greased oven trays.

Preheat oven to the highest temperature, place the baking trays into the oven and bake 10 minutes and turn, bake an additional 10 minutes or until crisp. Lightly dust with sifted icing sugar, if desired.
