  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest

Step 1

1. Simmer the cherries, 1 cup of sugar and the cornstarch together in a medium saucepan over low heat until the sugar has melted and the mixture thickens, about 10 minutes. Transfer the mixture to a bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate until set, at least 1 hour or up to 2 days, before using.

2. Whisk the cream cheese, remaining 1/4 cup sugar and the lemon zest in a medium bowl until combined. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until stiff, at least 1 hour or up to 2 days, before using. Spoon the cherry mixture on top of the cheese filling when assembling the Danish.
