Preparation

Step 1

Cook sugar, butter, corn syrup, and water until a few drops tested in cold water
crack (290 degrees on candy thermometer).

While syrup cooks, chop nuts fine and sprinkle almost all of them over bottom of
pie pan. Pour hot syrup over nuts, sprinkle with finely chopped chocolate bar (I
would guess Hershey bar) and top it off with the remaining almonds.

When toffee is cool, break into about 15 good chewing chunks.

Grandma said to make it on a dry day. She had a special cast iron pan that she
used. I have it. I think she is too “out of it” to help me now. I just didn’t find the
time to learn it from her before. It would be terrible to lose the recipe. This
recipe I took from her things. It is from an old magazine. I thought I had a recipe
that was written out. I know people who make their own toffee so there are
probably recipes on the internet.
