Ingredients

  • 2 C melted butter
  • 4 one ounce squares semi sweet chocolate
  • 2 C powdered sugar
  • 1 C sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 t vanilla
  • 1 t orange zest
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 1 t cream of tartar
  • 1 t salt
  • 4 1/4 C flour
  • 1/2 C sugar in a small bowl

Preparation

Step 1

Melt butter and chocolate squares in a saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly or in microwave. Stir them until smooth, transfer to a large mixing bowl and ad powdered and white sugars. Stir thoroughly and set aside to cool.

When the mixture is cool enough, add eggs. Mix in vanilla, orange zest, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.

Add flour in half cup increments.

Once the dough has been thoroughly mixed, roll one inch balls with your fingers or scooper. Dip balls in the bowl of white sugar. Place on greased or parchment papered cookie sheets. Flatten a bit.

Bake at 325 for 12 minutes. Cool on the cookies sheet for 2 minutes and remove to wire rack.

Approximately 7 to 8 dozen cookies
