Ingredients

  • 1 lb
  • bulk hot pork sausage
  • 1 lb
  • lean ground beef
  • 1 lb
  • velveeta cheese, cut into cubes
  • 1 tsp
  • worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp
  • basil, dried or 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 tsp
  • kosher salt
  • 1/2 tsp
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp
  • garlic powder with parsley
  • 1 lb
  • mozzarella cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 lb
  • loaf cocktail rye bread

Preparation

Step 1

1Saute sausage and beef in a large frying pan. Drain in a colander and blot with paper towel to absorb as much grease as possible.

2Combine sausage mixture and Velveeta cheese and cook until cheese is melted.

Add Worcestershire sauce, oregano, salt, pepper, garlic powder and blend well.

3Spread mixture on cocktail rye and sprinkle shredded mozzarella on top.

Bake at 350-degrees for 10 minutes.

4Hanky Pankies may be made ahead and frozen.

Bake for 12 minutes if frozen.
