We love this cross between steak and cocktail sauce so much, we had to create our own version. The ketchup base has a well-balanced combination of molasses, Worcestershire, vinegar, and horseradish that makes it perfect for surf or turf!

Ingredients

  • 1 1 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 2 1 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 2 2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
  • 2 2 2 tablespoons mild-flavored molasses
  • 2 2 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
  • 1 1 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 1/4 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 1/4 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 1/4 1/4 teaspoon Louisiana-style hot sauce, such as Tabasco

  • 1/4 1/4 1/4 cup onion, minced
  • 2 2 2 cloves garlic
  • 1/4 1/4 1/4 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 1/4 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 2 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 2 2 Tbsp. horseradish
  • 1/2 1/2 1/2 chipotle pepper (optional)
  • Instructions
  • 15 to olive oil in a small saucepan or sauté pan over medium-low heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally until the onion is soft and translucent – about 15 minutes. Be careful not to brown the onion.

Step 1

Whisk ketchup, Worcestershire, vinegar, molasses, horseradish, sugar, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and hot sauce in a medium bowl.

Sauce can be made 5 days ahead. Store in an airtight container and chill.
