Ingredients

  • Topping:
  • 1 cup oatmeal
  • 1⅓ cup boiling water
  • ½ cup margarine
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1⅓ cup flour
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • 6 tbsp. melted margarine
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (I use pecans)

Preparation

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, put in the oatmeal and pour boiling water over it . Let stand 20 minutes.

Meanwhile in another bowl, use an electric mixer and cream together margarine, brown sugar,
sugar, and eggs. When oatmeal is ready, stir the creamed mixture in. Sift in the flour, salt, soda and cinnamon. Stir well.

Pour into a greased 9x13 dish and bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

While Cake is baking, combine the ingredients for the topping
Combine: 6 tbsp. melted margarine
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts (I use pecans)

Spread over cake and bake another 15 minutes.
