Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 ¼ cups sugar
  • 1 ¼ cup Dutch-process cocoa
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tsp. Baking powder
  • 1 tbs. vanilla
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp. Espresso powder
  • 1 cup chopped nuts

Step 1

In a double broiler, melt the butter, then add the sugar and stir to combine. Melt until the mixture is hot, about 110 – 120 degrees, but not bubbling; it will become shiny looking as you stir. Stir in the cocoa, salt, baking powder, and vanilla. Whisk in the eggs, stirring until smooth, then add the flour, chips, and espresso powder, and nuts,,, again stirring until smooth. Spoon the batter into a lightly greased 9 x 13 inch pan.
Bake in a preheat 350 degree oven for 28 – 30 minutes, until a tester comes out clean.
