Ingredients

  • 1 cup (250 ml) butter
  • 1 cup (250 ml) sifted confectioner's (powdered) sugar
  • 2 tsp (10 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups (310 ml) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (250 ml) rolled oats
  • 1/2 tsp (2 ml) salt
  • About 1 cup chocolate sprinkles, grated chocolate, shredded coconut, chopped nuts, or chopped candied fruit

Step 1

Beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla until thoroughly combined. Beat in the flour, oats, and salt. Shape into 2 logs about 1 ½ inches (4 cm) in diameter and roll in chocolate sprinkles (or desired coating) to coat the surface. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap or wax paper and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight. Cut into 1/4-inch (5 mm) slices and place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake in a preheated 375F (190C) oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Makes about 4 dozen.
