Ingredients

  • 8 -12 prune plums, halved and pitted
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tbs. flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • ¼ cup butter, cold
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup butter, at room temperature
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¾ cup icing sugar
  • 1 tbs. milk
  • ½ tsp. almond extract

Step 1

Stir together the flour, sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in the butter until mixture resembles crumbs. Set aside.

Beat the sugar and butter until fluffy, beat in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the vanilla. In a separate bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the flour mix to the butter mix alternately with milk. Pour the batter into a spring form pan. Arrange plums, cut sides up o n top of the batter, sprinkle with topping. Bake at 350 degrees for an hour. Cool in a pan 10 minutes. Stir together icing sugar, milk, and almond extract until smooth. Drizzle glaze over the war cake.
