Ingredients
- Butter size of lemon (1/3 cup)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs (unbeaten)
- ½ cup cocoa
- 1/2 cup sour milk (1 tsp. vinegar)
- 1 cup flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- Pinch salt
- 1 tsp baking soda – Pour ½ cup boiling water over soda. Add last.

Preparation
Step 1
Beat butter and sugar. Add eggs and beat.
Add cocoa.
Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with sour milk, ending with dry ingredients.
Add boiling water and baking soda.
Pour into 8x8 square pan.
Bake at 350 degrees about 30 to 35 min.
Options for pans:
1 recipe for: 2 – 9 inch round pans for layer cake
Horseshoe pan
2 recipes for 9x12 pan
1 ½ recipes for doll skirt
2 ½ recipes for large square pan
1 recipe = 4 cups batter
