Ingredients

  • 1 can (1 lb. 12 oz.) tomatoes – I use the diced canned tomatoes
  • ½ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • ¼ tsp. each allspice and cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. dry mustard
  • 7 slices dry bread, cut in ½ inch cubes
  • ½ cup (¼) butter or margarine melted

Step 1

Drain tomatoes and mix with brown sugar and spices. Sprinkle bread cubes in a shallow 2 quart ungreased casserole and dribble with butter. Lightly mix in tomato mixture.
Bake uncovered in a 350 degree oven for about 45 minutes, or until crusty and lightly browned (I like it really browned) on top.
