Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour (wholewheat is good); add about another ½ cup as needed
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 lb. lard
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Mix flour, salt, sugar, baking powder. Blend in lard.
Beat egg, vinegar, vanilla; fill cup to ¾ full with lukewarm water. Add to dry ingredients gradually, mixing in with a fork.
Store in refrigerator or can freeze.
Makes about 5 single crust pies.

For mixmaster use 5 ½ cups flour. Mix with lard at #1 about 2 min.
Add liquid. Mix at #1 about ½ min.
