  • 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant espresso powder
  • 1 Tablespoon hot water
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

Step 1

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Line an 8-inch square baking pan with nonstick foil.
2. In a large glass mixing bowl, melt butter and chocolate in a microwave oven on high 1 to 1 1/2 minutes; whisk until smooth.
3. Whisk in sugar, eggs, vanilla, and espresso powder dissolved in hot water.
4. In a small bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir into chocolate mixture until combined. Fold in walnuts. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 28 to 30 minutes, or until a pick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs. Cool completely in pan.
5. Lift brownie from pan by foil ends to a cutting board.
